Call on Alinta not to Turn Their Back on Solar Thermal

Our whole community is connected to the future of these power stations, whether it is through employment, concern about the effects of pollution on health and the environment, or the broader economic benefit of having a major industry in our city.

Today the Port Augusta community launched the next stage of their fight for solar thermal to be built in their town in response to the news that Alinta did not receive funding for a feasibility study into building solar thermal in Port Augusta.

The Port Augusta community has launched this open letter calling on Alinta to continue to push for funding for solar thermal - can you sign on in support of their call?

Dear Mr Jeff Dimery, CEO of Alinta Energy and Alinta senior management,

We were saddened to hear that you did not receive federal support for a feasibility study into building solar thermal in Port Augusta.

We the undersigned want to see a solar thermal future for Port Augusta so we are calling on you not to give up on making this a reality. As concerned residents of Port Augusta alongside our supporters in the broader community, we urge you to consider other options, such as funding your own feasibility study or reapplying for funding.

Everyone in our community is connected to the future of these power stations, whether it is through employment, concern about the effects of pollution on health and the environment, or the broader economic benefit of having a major industry in our city. This community wants to work with you to turn Port Augusta into the home of Australia’s first solar thermal plant with storage.

Please don’t turn your back on Port Augusta’s solar future.

We look forward to hearing how you plan to move this forward.

The Repower Port Augusta Alliance
