Campaign Update: 4000 vote in support of solar, and Alinta Energy joins the call
The votes are in.
Over the last 2 weeks, 4053 local residents of Port Augusta have voted in support of solar thermal. And 43 voted for gas. It is clear that the community supports solar for the employment opportunities, health and environmental benefits.
And on Friday Alinta Energy, the company that owns the Northern and Playford B coal plants, got behind the proposal and publicly stated they will consider building solar thermal in Port Augusta.
So the Port Augusta City Council, Business Port Augusta, Alinta Energy, the Repower Port Augusta Alliance and the local community all support solar. It is now time to ramp up the pressure on state and federal governments so that they provide the legislation that will get solar built.
Over the coming weeks, the Repower Port Augusta team will be back in Parliament House in Adelaide talking to politcians about the proposal and the community vote that has showed such overwhelming support for solar.
On the ground, we will be training volunteers in Brisbane and Sydney on the Repower Port Augusta research so that they can hold public talks in their communities and get more people involved in the campaign. We will also be holding stalls in Adelaide and Melbourne to raise the numbers on the national petition. And preparation continues for the Walk for Solar - a walk from Port Augusta to Parliament House in Adelaide starting on the 16th September. Sign up here to get involved!
Thanks for supporting Repower Port Augusta. If you haven't already, please share the petition with your friends and family, and invite them to like our facebook page.
